When I first announced I’d be creating a cosplay costume for Wizard World Comic Con, I promised to keep you guys posted throughout the creative process. A lot of people have been asking how the costume’s been going, and if it seems like I’ve been a bit quiet on the subject, I haven’t forgotten. It’s just that the journalist in me has always worked best under pressure, and I really hadn’t done much more than plan until this past week.
The two components I was most concerned with were the wig and wings. I scoured the internet for the perfect wig–one that was heat-resistant and the correct length and style. It was nearly impossible to find an entirely pre-styled Morrigan wig, so as soon as the wig came in from China (thank goodness for eCRATER), I made an appointment with a hairstylist for an unconventional haircut.
And voila–a cleaner, more precise Morrigan hairstyle. Due to my weird posture in the first pic, these sort of remind me of makeover before and after pictures from an advertisement. Judging from the pictures I apparently gained style and confidence…
Since I’m opting for a street punk version of the character, I decided to trade in the big clunky wings for a screenprinted back patch to affix to a spiked biker jacket.
After discussing some ideas, my brother was nice enough to draw up the wings for this screenprint design.
I love the way the back patch turned out–so much so that I might just have to start up a band called “The Darkstalkers” after the con. Incidentally, if anyone else is as much of a Capcom fan as I am, I have a handful of these patches left, thanks to the awesomely helpful dude that was willing to make them for me. Feel free to drop me a line if you’re interested in one.
So for now I have the wig and back wings down, and I still have the stockings, top, biker jacket, gloves, and head wings left to complete with only three days to go. Oi…
