Frazetta’s Fantasy Costumes…It Feels Like Home…

Let’s go from couture to campy for just a moment here, while I briefly reminisce and get psyched for Halloween season. From time to time I visit my parents in the Poconos…and at least once a year I try to make a stop at Frazetta’s Fantasy Costumes.Does the name Frazetta sound familiar to you? This year-round costume shop is owned by the son of sci-fi and fantasy artist, Frank Frazetta, whose paintings you might recognize below.Does it seem a little cheezy that I’m talking about a costume shop on my fashion blog? Well, while this year I visited the shop to pick up supplies for my Halloween costume, back in high school it was an entirely different story.

I was too young to walk out of the house in loud clothes and colored hair without my mom flipping out, but I desperately wanted to look as badass as the girls at the punk shows I’d go to, with their colored tri-hawks and liberty spikes. So I’d blow all the cash from my part-time job at Frazetta’s, on colored wigs and fake eyelashes, and sneak them on once I’d left the house. But this time around I made my splurge on a hefty amount of high-grade, theater quality face makeup. And I’d love to say what my Halloween costume will be, but I think it’s best left as a surprise. Let’s just say it will be elegant, grand, andstylishly sinister…in true Fashion Vandals style.

If you’d like to find out any more about the costume shop, check their website. It’s got so much more character than those cookie cutter seasonal costume shops that pop up around this time of year.
