Happy Holidays! First off, can I just start out with a tip for everyone? It’s a no brainer, really, but when you’re getting ready to travel, whether it be around the holidays or not, by all means make a list. And even after you do make a list of everything you need, go back and make sure you\u00a0indeed did<\/em>\u00a0pack what you thought, and your eyes did not deceive you.<\/p>\n

I\u00a0bring this up because I’ll go right ahead and admit that\u00a0this photoset\u00a0was supposed to look different. No major issue–I’m happy with the end result, but\u00a0I did this shoot over the Thanksgiving holiday, and\u00a0as I packed the outfit I put together right before traveling, not only did I forget a piece of it, I grabbed the wrong wig as well (“major fail” I hear you thinking to yourself). Apparently I’m partially colorblind, and think a purple wig is a blue wig, or else my apartment has worse lighting than I realize. Either way, lesson learned, figured I’d pass that painfully\u00a0obvious yet crucial advice to double check your luggage (I see you rolling your eyes, thinking “well DUH”).<\/p>\n

The shoot ended up a bit more cutesy Lolita than expected, but hey, I rolled with it.<\/p>\n

The wig is from Gothic Lolita Wigs<\/a>, the dress is vintage, and the hairbow is from Rakuen. The shrug is offbrand, my apron is handmade, and “Maybelline Color Show Nail Falsies” (seemingly no longer available, according to Maybelline’s site) allowed me to pretend I had lovely nails for the day.<\/p>\n

This shoot is pretty much to serve in lieu of a holiday card. I want to thank all of you for continuing to follow the blog, and I hope you’ll continue to follow Fashion Vandals into the new year. I think the cookie says it all ^_^<\/p>\n

Now, that’s not to say that I didn’t actually make a hardcopy holiday card. People who went to my cohosted holiday party this year did end up with one of these. Props to my friend\/cohost Pete Phillips for some wonderfully awkward last minute Photoshop magic there.<\/p>\n

So this year for Christmas, my family and I are heading to Disneyworld. If you’d like to see what antics go on there, make sure to follow me on Instagram (@rissvandal). Due to the expenses of the trip, my family and I all agreed to skip the whole presents thing for each other this year. That being said, I\u00a0ended up breaking down and buying\u00a0a Christmas gift for myself<\/em>, using the excuse “uhh…I’ll need something to read on the flight” as the justification (despite the fact that it is a Japanese magazine, and no, I cannot read Japanese).<\/p>\n

I purchased the latest issue of Otomedia magazine from Jlist.com<\/a>. It’s a magazine catering to the female otaku, or\u00a0basically any person that appreciates a book brimming with pinups of pretty anime guys. I haven’t splurged on a Japanese magazine in a while, but it was undoubtedly worth the double digit cost, seeing as it came with a slew of pullout posters,\u00a0postcards, and a file folder and calendar.\u00a0The magazine\u00a0also seems to possibly cater to…cake enthusiasts. Never before have I seen a magazine with such an inordinately large number of pictures of men eating cake. Here’s one.<\/p>\n

Here’s another. And don’t by any means think that’s it, but\u00a0that’s enough for now, take my word for it.<\/p>\n

Anime pinups may not be your thing, but if you’re at all a fan of anime or Japanese culture, I can’t recommend\u00a0enough\u00a0that\u00a0you scope out Jlist<\/a>. First off, the speed of the shipping had me incredibly impressed, and instead of a generic business card, they include this object of terror in your package…<\/p>\n

Yes, those are horrifying anime eye glasses they include with their business information on the back. Though novelty aside, the site has some amazingly unique fashion and beauty offerings for the casual to hardcore otaku. We’re talking a wide array of Japanese fashion magazines, Sailor Moon eyeliner (what?!), and Dragon Ball Z “Super Saiyan Hold” hair wax\u00a0(WHAT?!), just to name a few. If you’re an otaku, chances are you’ve already been familiar with this site for quite some time, but if you’re like me, you may have passed over a purchase due to the shipping rates or long estimated shipping times (my package came in half the time estimated), but I give the site my highest marks in terms of customer satisfaction.<\/p>\n
