Last week\u00a0a friend of mine asked how I first became interested in punk and goth subcultures. It’s\u00a0hard to pinpoint something like that, but I\u00a0told her it was the experience of my first punk show–sloppy guitar riffs and confrontational tri-hawk girls left me forever changed. But\u00a0shortly after, I realized I think\u00a0I was converted far before that. I was\u00a0maybe ten years old when I first heard “Ornaments of Gold” by Siouxsie\u00a0and the Banshees, and I suspect that might have been the moment I fell in love with the dark side.<\/p>\n

That being said, when I put together my latest look, I had Banshees’ lead singer, Siouxsie\u00a0Sioux, in the forefront of my mind.<\/p>\n

I traded in my usual liquid liner for a brush and black Mehron\u00a0pressed pigment to create Siouxsie’s\u00a0signature brows and exaggerated cat eyes. Then I fashioned an outfit inspired by Siouxsie’s early days, when she seemed to live in blazers and button-up tops with ascots.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I spent the earlier part of my Sunday swimming in a sea of elastic and spikes. I managed to complete a spiked armband and garter, and hope to soon finish up a spiked headband to match.<\/p>\n

Despite how much sense it would make for me\u00a0to own a black cat, this adorable bundle of black fur is actually\u00a0my neighbor’s. Clearly sensing the opportunity for a photo-op, he mysteriously showed up as soon as I stepped outside.<\/p>\n

Since I ended my weekend on a\u00a0kinda witchy note, it’s worth mentioning that some of the craft stores around here have already started stocking harvest decor. Autumn, I’m ready for you. I always am.<\/p>\n
