Sugar’s Tea Room: Always Coordinate Your Outfit With Your Tea Sandwiches

This past weekend my friends and I took a trip to Sugar’s Tea Room and Gift Shoppe, a lovely place brimming with Victoriana, cheery ladies in fancy hats, and food almost too pretty to eat. In other words, I never wanted to leave.

Sugar’s is a color-coordinated land of treasures, and my friends and I were seated in The Gold Room (there are six other rooms to choose from).

With around 100 different types of teas, the menu can be a little daunting for first-timers. But once you pass the initial hurdle of decision-making, the fun begins. “As soon as you place you’re order,  feel free to wear any of the hats on the racks placed around the room.”

And there were hats.

And more hats.

And even more hats…

And while we were busy playing dress-up, the owner of the tea house may have heard about our antics and outfits, because she came over to catch a glimpse of our accessories (how I failed to take an adequate photo of the glitter and gem I worked on for a week is beyond me…).

But nevermind the fashion for a moment, and let us not forget the main event…the tea and food. Each diner receives their own pot of tea to accompany their scones, cakes, and tea sandwiches.

And oh, what colorful, colorful tea sandwiches. I had the the Salmon Mousse, Chicken Salad, and Taco sandwiches. And yes, the bread is pink, and they are all topped with cream cheese flowers.

Once everything is devoured and you’ve got your fill of sweets and tea, another wonderful aspect is the gift shop. Because nothing goes better with tea than lace gloves, sequined rings, and faery wings (that was not sarcasm).

And here we are, post tea-party, all hopped up on sugar and filled with glee…

  1. I have ALWAYS wanted to go here. A friend of my family’s owns the place (at least I’m pretty sure she still does) and I have yet to go. It looks like so much fun.
